About This Seed
The seed is contained in a thick, leathery, dark reddish-brown to black woody pod (4-7 inches long) seen in the image. The internal seeds are large, circular, flat, and extremely hard. The resulting tree grows 60-80 feet tall with a spreading canopy and bipinnately compound leaves.

Germination
7-15 days once scarified; 65-75°F (18-24°C). Requires mechanical scarification (filing the seed coat) or boiling water soak to break dormancy due to the extremely hard seed coat.

Plant 1-2 inches deep in well-draining soil. Spacing should be at least 20-30 feet apart for mature growth. Prefers pH 6.0-8.0.
